Gillespie happy with Lee's spree in World Cup, IPL

May 24, 2011 - Mhali

Former Australian fast bowler and Kings XI Punjab bowling coach Jason Gillespie has said that he is quite happy with the resurgence of his former teammate Brett Lee in the recent World Cup in the Indian subcontinent and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"I am not surprised at all that Brett has had such a good run in the World Cup and now the IPL. He has worked extremely hard to get back to where he is today," Gulf News quoted Gillespie, as saying.

"He has rightly cut the workload for himself and playing only in one-dayers and Twenty-20s," he added.

Looking back at his first coaching stint with the IPL, the 36-year-old felt it was a great "learning experience" for him.

"It's a privilege to work in the company of so many international cricketers and I enjoyed it quite a lot," Gillespie said.

Despite a late flourish in the Twenty20 tournament, Gillespie's Kings XI Punjab failed to make it to the play-offs, but ended in a creditable fifth spot in the points' table.
