Gary Lineker wrote 'cheesy love poems' for wife

October 19, 2011 - London

Former English footballer Gary Lineker has revealed that he wrote cheesy love poems for wife Danielle.

Lineker, 50, began penning the lovey-dovey verses after the couple got hitched two years ago, and has since been leaving love notes around the house declaring his love for the Welsh lingerie model.

However, the former English striker had to ditch his pen after Danielle, 32, started studying Shakespeare.

Gary, 50, said his "soppy" poems were no match for the world's most famous bard.

"I sometimes do things like write her poems, which I know is a bit cringeworthy," the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

"They are usually comedy but sometimes I'll write something a bit soppy and meaningful. But since she's got into acting and studying Shakespeare I don't tend to write any more. You really can't compare," he added.
