Gambhir visits temple ahead of KKR-Mumbai Indians IPL match

May 22, 2011 - Kolkata

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir visited the famous Kalighat temple in Kolkata on Sunday ahead of the team's Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Mumbai Indians.

KKR will play against Mumbai Indians in Kolkata later today.

Locals were seen gathering around the temple soon after they saw Gambhir coming out of his car.

However, security officials escorted Gambhir safely to the temple.

The priest of Kalighat, Krishna Tiwari, performed temple rituals for Gambhir and hoped that the KKR team will win its next match.

"I am the priest of this Kalighat Temple. I went inside the temple along with Gautam Gambhir and performed rituals, while he prayed. I just want to say that I hope KKR will win the next match," Tiwari said.

The team in its previous game had defeated Pune Warriors by seven wickets.

KKR made its way to the final four of the tournament after Deccan Chargers defeated Kings XI Punjab on Saturday.

The final would be played on May 28.
