F1 champ Vettel raises fear over tyre safety

April 13, 2011 - London

Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel has raised fears over tyre safety after being hit in the visor by a rubber bullet during practice in Malaysia.

British driver Paul di Resta also revealed that he dodged them in the race.

New suppliers Pirelli have produced tyres that wear quicker - under orders from F1 chiefs who want more pit stops, The Sun reports.

Vettel said: "The rubber marbles are a real threat. A car in front of you will shoot them like bullets."

"Just imagine what it will be like in Singapore or Monaco where people sit very close to the track," he added.

Pirelli boss Paul Hembery said: "If it's an issue, we'll have to confront it."
