England and Cook gobble records in Edgbaston Test

August 14, 2011 - London

England and opening batsman Alastair Cook went on an incredible statistical blitz and gobbled up records in the third Test match win at Edgbaston against India.

England's total of 710-7 declared was their third best of all time and biggest score since they put on 903-7 against Australia at the Oval in 1938, the Sun reports.

Their next best is 849 against West Indies in Jamaica in 1930.

Cook's score of 294 was the sixth highest by an England batsman and the best since Graham Gooch hit 333 against India at Lord's in 1990.

He faced 545 balls and his 767 minutes at the crease was the second longest in history by an Englishman.
