Cummins says will skip IPL if it affects chances of playing for Australia

December 8, 2011 - Sydney

Upcoming Australian fast bowler Patrick Cummins has said that he will pull out of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) if he feels it could have a negative impact on his national team duties.

The Daily Telegraph quoted Cummins as telling The Big Sports Breakfast on 2KY that it is too early to know if he will definitely play in the IPL - which is a direct fixture clash with Australia's tour of the West Indies.

The IPL begins in Chennai on April 4 and ends on May 27.

Australia's tour of the West Indies is from March 16-April 27.

"I've been talking to some of The Other Guys. It's a worthwhile opportunity going over there," Cummins said of his discussions with Australian teammates regarding the IPL.

"But to get in there you have to nominate right now. You can always pull out later. I think it would be great to play, but we'll look at it again closer to the date. If it's going to affect any other cricket over here...I definitely don't want it to be affected," Cummins said.
