Cricket fans throng ticket counters in Chennai for Champions League tourney

September 9, 2011 - Chennai

Cricket fans are making a beeline for ticket counters, as the sale of tickets for four matches of the forthcoming third Champions League Twenty-20 cricket tourney commenced on Thursday here.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Mumbai Indians in the third match of the series that will be held on September 24.

The tickets are priced between Rs.300 for the stands and Rs.5000 for pavilion seats.

Ram, a staunch CSK fan, bought tickets for his family for the showdown against Mumbai Indians.

"Basically, I am a staunch supporter of Chennai Super Kings and (Mahendra Singh) Dhoni and we expect a good match against Mumbai Indians. We are expecting Sachin (Tendulkar) to come because (though) he recently got injured in his foot and we expect him to come. Anyway Mumbai Indians also have good team like (Lasith) Malinga, (James) Franklin and Rohit Sharma. We expect a good competition on 24th, that is why I have come here to purchase the ticket for my family and we expect Chennai to win like last year, this time also, the Champions Trophy," said Ram.

In the 2010 tourney, the Chennai Super Kings won the Champions League Twenty20 by registering a comfortable victory by eight wickets over the Capetown Warriors in the final in Johannesburg.

Ajay, another CSK fan, expects another stunning performance by CSK skipper Mahendra Sigh Dhoni.

"I got five tickets for the first match of the Champions League. I am coming with my friends and CSK is the defending champions, so we expect a lot from them. Dhoni's captaincy is down a bit right now, but once he wears a yellow jersey, surely he will be back," said Ajay.

The qualifying rounds of the tournament will be held at Hyderabad from September 19 to September 21.

The Champions League T20 tournament will begin on September 23 and end on October 9.

At least 10 matches, including the finals, semi-finals, will be held at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The tickets for the semi- final and the finals may cost the fans more.
