Cricket Australia launches performance review

February 8, 2011 - Sydney

Cricket Australia has begun its most exhaustive review in its history following the Ashes series loss to England during the Australian summer.

Two reviews will start later this month, one looking at team performance, the other on the governance of the sport.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland said it would be the most in-depth analysis of its kind.

"I know there was a review after the 2005 Ashes series. I don't imagine that it was as extensive as this review is planned to be. And probably this review will be more independent and I think more exhaustive ... and ultimately more transparent," The Herald Sun quoted Sutherland, as saying.

"The reviews will get underway once the terms of reference, scope and timelines have been finalised by The Independent consultants to be engaged by the board," CA chairman Jack Clarke added.

"We intend to have the reviews completed by our Annual General Meeting in October. We will confirm the names of review participants once the scoping has been agreed and before they start discussions with the wide range of stakeholders involved in the respective issues."

Clarke said he was not yet able to say who would conduct the review into team performance, but promised it would be thorough.
