Capello says needs only 100 words to communicate with England squad

March 29, 2011 - London

For someone who earns six million pounds a year, England manager Fabio Capello has made the incredible claim that he needs only 100 words to convey what he wants from his players.

The Daily Express quoted Capello, 64, as saying: "I don't have to speak about a lot of different things. Maximum 100 words."

FA officials claim he is much clearer in one-on-one situations and also insist they are satisfied with his level of English.

But the fact he still has an interpreter to help him understand questions and give answers shows he still cannot confidently get his message across on his own.

"I think when I speak with them they understand everything. If I need to speak about the economy or other things, I can't. But with tactics, I don't have to speak about a lot of different things. Maximum 100 words," Capello said.
