UK police probing blizzard of phone calls linked to spot fixer Majeed

British investigators are reportedly examining a blizzard of telephone calls to and from British tycoon-cum-cricket spot fixer Mazhar Majeed.

London, Sep.1 : British investigators are reportedly examining a blizzard of telephone calls to and from British tycoon-cum-cricket spot fixer Mazhar Majeed.

Officials were said to be looking at the calls made over two years during tournaments featuring Pakistan around the world.

Scotland Yard has questioned three Pakistan players - 18-year-old bowling sensation Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and captain Salman Butt - over claims they took cash as part of a betting scam.

The players will meet Pakistani officials in London today and are to be asked to stand down from the rest of their country's tour of England.

Majeed's telephone bill apparently surged in November last year when the team was on a tour of Australia, The Sun reports.

Majeed is said to have boasted to the journalist that hundreds of thousands of pounds were made in a betting scam on that tour.

The phone was also allegedly used heavily in 2008 when the team was playing against Australia, Zimbabwe, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh; in June last year when Pakistan featured in the Twenty20 World Cup in England; and in September last year when a tournament featuring Pakistan was held in South Africa.
