Freshly unmasked swanky Kiwi athletes CWG village tower 'anything but unlivable'

The New Zealand teams unmasked Delhi Commonwealth Games accommodation tower at the athletes village has made the earlier reports of unlivable conditions hard to fathom.

New Delhi, Oct 2: The New Zealand team's 'unmasked' Delhi Commonwealth Games accommodation tower at the athletes' village has made the earlier reports of "unlivable" conditions hard to fathom.

According to, the feature is the main living area, which is carpeted with fake grass and includes the Red Beach Stand where the athletes can watch the Games on three flat screen televisions.

The rooms in the tower are small, but comfortable to accommodate two athletes. It also has a lounge and a kitchen.

The bottom floor includes a medical clinic with an on-site physiotherapist.

It also has games and chill-out areas like the Raglan Room and the Titahi Bay Timezone, where a Wii game console provides live practice for the boxing team.

Meanwhile, a huge banner featuring a quote from Sir Edmund Hillary is draped over the accommodation tower, separating it from every other building in the village.

New Zealand chef de mission Dave Currie had earlier described the village as "unlivable".

The Kiwi team had subsequently delayed their arrival, and the leaked photos of the filthy conditions had prompted cyclist Greg Henderson to pull out of the Games.
