Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma on Wednesday announced a cash award of Rs.21 lakh, if the Indian team secures Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games Hockey Finals and Rs. 15 lakh if they win a Silver Medal.


New Delhi, Oct.13 : Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma on Wednesday announced a cash award of Rs.21 lakh, if the Indian team secures Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games Hockey Finals and Rs. 15 lakh if they win a Silver Medal.

Minister Anand Sharma, presently on an official visit to Kenya, stated that the hockey team has been performing well and wished the team all success for their final match.

Earlier, the Minister had announced a cash award of Rs. 7.5 lakh for all the Indian players who won the Gold Medal and Rs.5 lakh for Silver and Rs.3.5 lakh for Bronze.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is expected to visit Major Dhyanchand stadium to watch the final match of Men's Hockey event to be played between India and world champion Australia here on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Indian hockey team beat England 5-4 and booked a berth in the finals.
