London, Oct 13 : England captain Rio Ferdinand's brother, Anton, has been issued a warrant after he failed to show up for a court appearance.

Anton, who plays for Sunderland, was due to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after being convicted of driving while using a mobile phone.

The Sunderland star will be held in custody in court cells whenever he is traced before being brought before magistrates, The Sun reports.

The six million pounds player is facing a driving ban as he already had nine points on his licence.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "There has been no arrest at this stage. A warrant has been issued and we are aware."

Anton was caught using his phone in his white Range Rover on July 13 in Newcastle while on his way to Newcastle airport to catch a flight ahead of a pre-season friendly.
