Colly, 32, insisted: "I'm not going to buy Ferraris and that sort of thing. I'll probably just take as much as possible off my mortgage or maybe put it under the bed - that's where money is safest at the moment!"

The Stanford Twenty20 for 20 million dollars will definitely take place in Antigua on November 1 after the Texan billionaire and mobile phone giants Digicel settled their differences over sponsorship.

Each player on the winning team will receive 575,000 pounds.

The four non-playing members of the squad will share a million dollars as will the management and back-up staff. The losers go home with nothing.

Skipper Kevin Pietersen says England might counter claims that the occasion is vulgar and offensive in the current credit squeeze by giving some of the winnings to charity - although no details have been discussed.

"It's a situation we've never been in before. We're not playing for The Ashes or the World Cup, it's purely for money. We don't know how we will react until the day but I'm sure there will be a few nerves around," The Sun quoted Collingwood, as saying.

Collingwood was speaking at the Slazenger 2009 product launch.
