Symonds revels in captaincy despite no cricketing heroics

Troubled all-rounder Andrew Symonds enjoyed the responsibility of captaining Queensland for the first time at the senior level, and even though he couldnt do much with the bat or ball, he led his side to an easy win in the second of Twenty20 match against the touring Kolkata side at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Melbourne, Oct 1 : Troubled all-rounder Andrew Symonds enjoyed the responsibility of captaining Queensland for the first time at the senior level, and even though he couldn't do much with the bat or ball, he led his side to an easy win in the second of Twenty20 match against the touring Kolkata side at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Trying to win back the trust of his national teammates following his sacking after the "gone fishing" debacle a month ago, Symonds appeared at home barking orders in the field although he didn't bowl himself.

"It was a lot of fun out there, I enjoyed the whole experience," Symonds said after play. I was glad (regular Bulls skipper) Chris Simpson was kind enough to step aside to let me have a crack at the captaincy," the Daily Telegraph quoted Symonds, as saying.

It was only a practice game but it was another step back from the cricketing wilderness as Symonds led Queensland (4-227) to victory over Kolkata (108).

However, while his tilt at the captaincy went to plan, his quest for runs hit another hurdle.

Coming in at 2-166 in the 15th over, Symonds appeared out of touch as he battled to eight (10 balls) before being caught on the point boundary.
