Ganguly fined and reprimanded, umpire suspended

Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly became the second player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to face punitive action when he was docked 10 per cent of his match fees, and also issued a reprimand, for his on-field behaviour during the match with Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on Thursday.

New Delhi, May 2 : Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly became the second player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to face punitive action when he was docked 10 per cent of his match fees, and also issued a reprimand, for his on-field behaviour during the match with Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on Thursday.

Ganguly follows off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was suspended for the entire tournament for slapping fast bowler S. Sreesanth after a Kings XI Punjab encounter with the Mumbai Indians on April 25 at the Mohali Cricket Stadium.

IPL administrators also suspended umpire GA Pratapkumar for one game for going to the third umpire on Ganguly's insistence after the Kolkata skipper had insisted that South African skipper Graeme Smith, fielding for the Jaipur team, had not taken a catch cleanly.

The referral to the third umpire went in Ganguly's favour, but it did not go down well either with Japiur skipper Shane Warne, or Smith.

Warne had on Thursday fired a broadside at Ganguly in the post-match press conference, saying he had indulged in delaying tactics. Ganguly also shot back at the Australian, saying he was no one to talk about discipline and fairness, and that his past record and conduct on and off the field was in the public domain.
