New Delhi, Mar 6 : Indian cricket team on Thursday received a rousing welcome on their arrival here after a thumping victory in the Commonwealth Bank tri-series defeating Australia.

India ended their tour of Australia on a high note when they beat the hosts by nine runs on Tuesday to win their best-of-three finals series 2-0.

The victorious cricketers on their return home were greeted to cheers from ecstatic fans as they arrived at the Hotel Grand Intercontinental in the national capital.

"I think it's very significant, very important. Indians are very emotional as far as cricket is concerned. Since our team has defeated the World Champions Australia, people are very thrilled, they are very happy, emotionally carried away. That is the reason why this kind of welcome is being seen here," said Rajiv Shukla, Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The team received rousing welcome at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium by their fans.

The squads were felicitated for their brilliant performance in the series at a grand ceremony organised by the board.

BCCI President Sharad Pawar had announced a rupees 100 millions cash award for the wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

He also announced a cash reward of ten million rupees for the selectors of the Indian Team.

It was sweet victory for the Indians after they lost the test series 2-1 and have been embroiled in a long-running feud with their opponents all summer.
