Indian eves prepare for Olympic hockey qualifiers

Indian womens hockey team is currently toiling hard at a training camp in Lucknow for the Olympic qualifiers in Russia scheduled for beginning next month.

Lucknow, Mar 29 : Indian women's hockey team is currently toiling hard at a training camp in Lucknow for the Olympic qualifiers in Russia scheduled for beginning next month.

After the shocking failure of the men's hockey team to qualify for the Olympics, the eves are sweating it out under the careful eyes of coach and former Australian hockey great Ric Charlesworth.

"He is a very good coach. He trains the players according to the requirements of the game at the international level. We definitely would have the benefit of having him with the team. The schedule he has chalked out for the camp is being implemented," said Mamta Kharb, captain of the team.

Though Ric has very little time, he is hopeful the women's team would be able to retrieve some pride and make up for the disgrace of men's hockey.

"We learn about them everyday. We have a sports psychologist who is doing some work with them. We have video sessions to talk about tactics," said Ric.

Although the last time Indian eves played in Olympics was in the boycotted 1980 Games in Moscow, the team is upbeat with its recent performance.

The Olympic qualifiers would be held at Kazan in Russia from April 19 to 27.
