Sehwag repeats March 28, 2004 feat, makes triple ton against Proteas

A splendid triple-ton by swash buckling Indian opener Virender Sehwag with help of 41 fours and five majestic sixes in just 278 balls helped India in scoring 468 for the loss of only one wicket on the third say of the Chennai Test being played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

Chennai, Mar 28 : A splendid triple-ton by swash buckling Indian opener Virender Sehwag with help of 41 fours and five majestic sixes in just 278 balls helped India in scoring 468 for the loss of only one wicket on the third say of the Chennai Test being played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

It was a mere coincidence that the triple century came on March 28, the same date when he scored his first triple ton 4 years ago at Multan in Pakistan.

Sehwag was unbeaten at 309 at the end of the third day's play. His fourth double hundred in Test cricket is the third fastest in Test cricket history.

Sehwag took just 78 balls for his second hundred, and 84 for the third.

After Shewag's opening partner, Wasim Jaffer contributed 73 to an opening stand of 213, Rahul Dravid and Shewag made 255 runs.

In the morning, Sehwag and Jaffer continued from where they left off at the end of Day 2. The home team raced past the 100 run mark after just 24 overs.

The pitch at the Chaidambaram Stadium showed no signs of deteriorating as the South African pace attack led by Makhaya Ntini and Dale Steyn looked to be struggling to come to terms with the hot and humid conditions.

On Day 2, South Africa ended their first innings at a mammoth 540. Hashim Amla smashed a brilliant 159, while Harbhajan Singh took 5 wickets for Team India.
