Capello happy with Becks game

England football coach Fabio Capello has expressed his happiness over the way former captain David Beckham performed in his 100th international in a friendly against France on Wednesday.

London, Mar.27 : England football coach Fabio Capello has expressed his happiness over the way former captain David Beckham performed in his 100th international in a friendly against France on Wednesday.

"I was very happy with Beckham's game. He played like he always does and like I know how he can play. I substituted him because I know how he can play and I know him well, so I could see someone else," The Sun quoted Capello, as saying.

"The landmark of 100 caps was never a problem for me. There was no ceremony in the dressing room," he added.

However, it turned out to be a wretched night for England. A Franck Ribery penalty - after another David James blunder - condemned Capello to his first defeat as England boss.

Capello, who enjoyed a 2-1 win over Switzerland in his first game, said: "I've just told the players I'm happy about what they did.

"We made progress compared to the Switzerland game, even though we won that. I'm happy because I saw some good things, especially because we were playing against a top-level team.

"Another thing I'm happy about is that I made the team play in two different ways by switching formation.

Capello insisted his team's confidence would not have been affected by the defeat.
