Beckham earned his place in the team: Cappello

England coach Fabio Capello has welcomed former captain David Beckham into the squad, and said that he has earned his place in the team.

London, Mar 21 : England coach Fabio Capello has welcomed former captain David Beckham into the squad, and said that he has earned his place in the team.

Capello was delighted that Beckham had proven that he is still worthy of an international call-up despite his much-criticised move to LA Galaxy.

David Beckham is on track to become only the fifth Englishman to win 100 caps if he plays in a friendly match against France in Paris next week after winning a recall to the squad.

Capello's assistant Franco Baldini checked out Beckham in Dallas last weekend and was happy with what he saw.

He also received a rave review from Galaxy boss Ruud Gullit about Beckham's fitness and continuing passion for football.

Beckham was omitted from Capello's first game as England coach, the friendly victory over Switzerland last month, because he was not match fit.

There were suggestions the 32-year-old's England career was over but he has since played five friendly matches for his American outfit and come through successfully.

That has persuaded Capello he could be a valuable asset in the World Cup qualifiers, which start in September, The Sun reported.

Head coach Capello has also recalled Arsenal teenager Theo Walcott, nearly two years after he won his one and only cap as England's youngest ever player, and handed Middlesbrough defender David Wheater a first international call-up.

Chelsea's John Terry and Frank Lampard, who both missed Capello's first match in charge, return to the 30-man provisional squad after recovering from injuries which kept them out of last month's 2-1 win over Switzerland.
