Karachi, Mar 17 : Despite a lengthy charge-sheet alleging gross misconduct against fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar being submitted with it two weeks ago, the PCB's disciplinary committee has failed to take any action against the speedster.
Well-placed PCB sources said the disciplinary committee still has no idea what sort of decision it should take against the fast bowler, who is facing the possibility of being banned for life.
The disciplinary committee, slated to meet this week, will only come out with a decision just before the PCB Executive Board meeting, which is scheduled for March 22 in Lahore, reported The News.
The PCB is supposed to announce a decision on Shoaib's case after the Board meeting.
Shoaib seems to be in neck-deep trouble as the PCB management has filed a lengthy charge-sheet against him. The Board officials are of the view that Shoaib is a negative influence on his teammates and should finally be punished severely for 'several episodes of misconduct'.
Currently, the fast bowler is under a one-year probation after being banned for 13 matches and fined Rs 3.4 million after he was found guilty of hitting teammate Mohammad Asif with a cricket bat before the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Twenty20 event in South Africa last September.
At that time, the PCB bosses had made it clear that another unsavoury incident involving the controversial pacer will result in a life ban. After lying low for a few months, Shoaib landed himself in trouble by publicly criticising the PCB policies.
Shoaib, 32, was one regarded as the most lethal fast bowler in international cricket with a speed that hovered around the 100-mph mark. But over the years, injuries, doping-related issues and disciplinary problems have dogged his performance. Since making his debut on home ground (Rawalpindi) against the West Indies in 1997, Shoaib has just played 46 Tests, taking 178 wickets. He also has 219 one-day scalps from 138 appearances.
