India Red lifted the first South Asia Universities Hockey Championship Trophy which concluded here today at the Guru Nanak Dev University.

Amritsar, March 16 : India Red lifted the first South Asia Universities Hockey Championship Trophy which concluded here today at the Guru Nanak Dev University.

India Blue finished runners-up, Pakistan stood third and Sri Lanka got the fourth position.

India Red defeated India Blue by 3-1, while Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 3-0.

After the lemon break, India Blue was on the attack and their forward line connecting a ball from the left flank raided the rivals' goal post. They succeeded in taking the lead in the 44th minute when Jujhar Singh scored a field goal.

But the India Red equalised when Daljeet Singh converted a penalty corner in 49th minute. Akhilesh Kumar consolidated this lead when he scored a field goal making the tally 2-1 in the 59th minute. Kaushlander Singh was credited for scoring the winning field goal in 64th minute.

India Red got four penalty corners while they could convert only one in 49th minute. Similarly India Blue also earned four penalty corners but could not succeed to convert any one of them.

Four teams from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participated in this championship.
