Second auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) players will be held here today.
Mumbai, Mar 11 : Second auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) players' will be held here today.
The eight franchises will bid for a set of 25 players who weren't part of the first-round auction, which was held on February 20.
In the second auction, there will be no reserve price for these centrally contracted players and bidding will start at US 50,000 dollars. The franchisees can decide to contract these players on a one-year basis.
The players from Pakistan include Misbah-ul Haq, Salman Butt, Mohammad Yousuf, Yasir Hameed, Mohammad Haneef and Sohail Tanvir.
The list of New Zealand players includes Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel, James Franklin, Chris Martin, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton and Jamie How.
The list, all contracted to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), also contains six Australians, three from Bangladesh, two South Africans and one Sri Lankan.
Brad Hodge, Shane Watson, James Hopes, Phil Jacques, Brett Geeves, Luke Pomerbach are from Australia, Morne Morkel, Ashwell Prince are from South Africa, Prasanna Jayawardena are from Sri Lanka and Mohammad Ashraful, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak are from Bangladesh.
The governing council of the DLF IPL has determined that the sixteen players that were part of the just-concluded U-19 World Cup squad (plus one U-19 player to be nominated by the council) will not be auctioned.
They will be allocated to the franchises on a draft format. Each of the sixteen players can only be signed on a one-year contract at a fee of 30,000 dollars.
The IPL governing council has also set a minimum player fee of US 20,000 dollars for under 22 players and US 50,000 dollars for other Ranji and non-auction players.
The first players' auction saw 77 players being auctioned off for sums ranging from 1.5 million to 400,000 dollars.
In the tournament, based on Twenty20 matches, 59 matches will be played in 44 days starting April 18.
