The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association today announced the participation of Swiss champion Patty Schnyder at the Bangalore Open 2008, the biggest tennis extravaganza in South & South East Asia. Patty Schnyder has 10 tour wins to her credit and is currently ranked 14th in the WTA Ranking.

Bangalore, 30th January, 2008: The Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association today announced the participation of Swiss champion Patty Schnyder at the Bangalore Open 2008, the biggest tennis extravaganza in South & South East Asia. Patty Schnyder has 10 tour wins to her credit and is currently ranked 14th in the WTA Ranking.

Patty Schnyder, aged 29, has been playing on the WTA tour since the mid-1990s and is a former World No.7. She has had significant wins over World No. 1's in the past. During her long career, she has reached four Grand Slam quarterfinals, and one Grand Slam semifinal. She has won 10 WTA singles titles and 4 WTA doubles titles and is coached by husband Rainer Hofmann; an information technology specialist who she married 4 years ago.

Announcing her participation, Patty Schnyder said, "It is great to be part of India's first Tier II tennis extravaganza at Bangalore. This is my first visit to India and I am as much thrilled as anyone would be to visit this great nation. I look forward to play great tennis at Bangalore in front passionate lovers of the sport."

She was well known as the biggest mover in WTA Rankings in 1995, moving up 634 spots & Recipient of 1998 WTA Tour Most Improved Player Award. The Bangalore Open will be held from 3 - 9 Mar '08 at the KSLTA Signature Kingfisher Stadium, Cubbon Park in Bangalore. The event has total prize money of US $600,000 and the Champion of Bangalore Open 2008 will take home US $95,500 & 300 WTA points. The Bangalore Open was a Tier III event with prize money of $175,000 and has been upgraded to a Tier II event from 2008 season.

About KSLTA

The KSLTA Tennis Stadium was originally created in 1976 to stage the First Davis Cup in Bangalore. The entire stadium was renovated fully to International Standards during October 2000 with the seating capacity of 7000 spectators for conducting the ATP World Doubles Championship 2000 for the first time in South Asia. In appreciation of the organisation, ATP allotted the Second ATP World Doubles Challenge Cup, which was held in Jan 2002. Since then, KSLTA has successfully hosted 2 WTA championships in the year 2006 & 2007 apart from many other ITF Tournaments.
