Queenslands Gold Coast will play host to a Playboy America amateur tournament this year.
Sydney, Jan.24 : Queensland's Gold Coast will play host to a Playboy America amateur tournament this year.
The Playboy Scramble semi-final will be staged at Royal Pines on April 20 - the first time the event has been taken outside the United States.
Greg Clayton, marketing director of VIP Golf Australia, said the event was all about "parties and golf".
"It's never been allowed outside North America in its history," stuff.co.nz quoted him, as saying yesterday.
"It's taken us about five years to get the permission to do it. It'll be a big event for the Gold Coast and ultimately it'll expand to the rest of the country as well," he added.
According to the Playboy Golf website, the event features a mix of "celebrity participants, Bunnies, Playmates, Girls of Golf and a once-in-a-lifetime Playboy VIP Player's Pyjama and Lingerie Mansion party".
It appears a perfect fit for the Gold Coast, which has often been portrayed as a city of sin, although Clayton insisted Australia's premier tourist destination was chosen for reasons other than glitz and glamour.
"It was basically selected because it's the centre for resort golf," he said.
The tournament is comprised of four-person teams that compete against each other in a scramble format.
The final will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Details of the Gold Coast event are to be revealed at a media conference today.
