Perfect strike partnership for UKs 2018 World Cup bid: Becks and Prince William

Prince William and David Beckham will be the frontrunners for Englands 2018 World Cup bid.

London, Jan 10 : Prince William and David Beckham will be the frontrunners for England's 2018 World Cup bid.

While the royal heir has been roped in to play a formal role as the diplomatic leader and figurehead of the drive, "Goldenballs" Beckham will have an ambassadorial "supporting role" in the drive for the bid.

The agreement dubbed as "The Posh and Becks Campaign", was made official in Downing Street on Tuesday.

This duo will be supported by a full-time chief executive figure, whose role would be same as athletics hero Lord Seb Coe, who was the bastion of the successful London 2012 Olympic Games bid.

"William's role will be a vital piece of the jigsaw - and Beckham will play a crucial part in the event. It's the perfect strike partnership for England," said a member of the royal household.

The 25-year-old sports-mad royal is also the President of the Football Association (FA), the body officially in charge of the England bid.

The FA is also supported by Prime Minister Gordon Brown's government and the ministers and officials are giving full support to the FA bosses in finding the right chief executive.

However, former England captain Becks refused Brown to hold a full-time post in the bid's running due to time constraints but at the same time assured the PM that he wanted to perform similar duties like he did in the winning bid to bring the Olympics to London.

Becks confirmed after the chat with the PM that he was looking forward to get involved in the 2018 bid.

"I'm more than interested in bringing the World Cup to this country," he said.
