India-Australia ODI abandoned due to rain

The opening one-day international (ODI) of the Commonwealth Bank tri-series between India and Australia at the Brisbane Cricket Ground was called off today due to rain.

Brisbane, Feb 3 : The opening one-day international (ODI) of the Commonwealth Bank tri-series between India and Australia at the Brisbane Cricket Ground was called off today due to rain.

Both the teams were awarded two points each from the abandoned match.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. The visitors put up a poor show and were all out for just 194 in 45 overs.

Due to intermittent rain, Australia was given a revised target of 141 runs from 26 overs following Duckworth Lewis method.

Following an impressive bowling spell by S Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma, Australia had lost its three wickets in the form of Adam Gilchrist, J.R. Hopes and Ricky Ponting by the start of sixth over.

Gilchrist and Hopes scored 14 and 17, respectively, however, the skipper could not open his account, as he was caught by Virender Sehwag at the second slip on Sreesanth's ball.

Australian team was at 51 from 7.2 overs with M.J Clarke and Andrew Symonds playing on individual scores of 2 and 5 respectively, before the match was called off.

India will take on Sri Lanka in their next match on February 5.
