Geared up to take on the heavyweights at the Bangalore Open
Bangalore, February 11th, 2008: One of the world’s most thrilling teenagers will be a strong contender at the Bangalore Open this year. The 18th Ranked Agnes Szavay confirmed her participation for the biggest tennis event in South and South East Asia.
The 19 year old from Budapest, Hungary is one of the brightest young talents on the WTA Tour. She is currently the country's highest ranked tennis player. She won her first career WTA title at Palermo in July, 2007 and followed it up with a win at the China Open in Beijing. She went on to make the Quarter Finals at the US Open 2007. Szavay achieved her career high rank of 18 today, February 11, 2008.
She started to play tennis at the age of six, with her parents acting as her first coaches and managers. Her younger sister Blanka is also a professional tennis player.
"I am so excited to be coming to play in India. People who have been to India paint such a beautiful picture of the country. It has always been a dream of mine to travel to India. I look forward getting to Bangalore Open", said Szavay in a message to Indian Tennis fans.
Szavay will have the opportunity to test herself against the best, with Serena, Venus, Scnhyder headlining the entries at the US $ 600000 prize money event and would be a strong contender for her 3rd WTA Tour title.

ABOUT BANGALORE OPEN
The Bangalore Open is owned and organised by Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association and will be played from March 3 - 9 at the KSLTA Signature Kingfisher Stadium, Cubbon Park in Bangalore. The event has total prize money of US $600,000 and the Champion of Bangalore Open 2008 will take home US $95,500 & 300 WTA points. The Bangalore Open was a Tier III event with prize money of $175,000 and has been upgraded to a Tier II event from 2008 season. It is the third straight year a WTA Tour event is being organised by KSLTA.
