Miandad snubs Qadirs proposal of holding trial matches

The Director-General of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Javed Miandad, has rejected chief selector Abdul Qadirs proposal to host a series of trial matches ahead of the home teams upcoming international fixtures.

Karachi, Dec.31 : The Director-General of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Javed Miandad, has rejected chief selector Abdul Qadir's proposal to host a series of trial matches ahead of the home team's upcoming international fixtures.

Qadir failed to impress both Miandad and PCB chairman Ijaz Butt with his idea of playing trial matches which would help the selectors to pick the best possible team for the home assignment apart from providing the players a perfect opportunity to get ready for challenging assignments.

"Miandad has rejected Qadir's proposal to hold test-style trial matches and one-day games in the lead up to the series against Sri Lanka," The News quoted a PCB source, as saying.

Miandad also rejected Qadir's proposal to have separate teams for Tests and One-day internationals.

"He (Miandad) believes that Pakistan would be better off with one balanced squad for all versions of the game," a PCB source said.

Meanwhile, the proposed Sri Lankan tour of Pakistan has hit a road block as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has turned down the PCB's proposal to play three Tests and five one-day internationals. The SLC has also demanded a rescheduling of dates for the series.
