Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp believes that Wayne Rooney should be deployed on the right side of Englands midfield at the expense of David Beckham.
London, Aug 22 : Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp believes that Wayne Rooney should be deployed on the right side of England's midfield at the expense of David Beckham.
Just like the rest of the nation, Redknapp is dismayed by Wednesday's pitiful 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic.
He lambasted Fabio Capello's decision to use Steven Gerrard on the left flank, insisting that the Liverpool captain is more effective when playing in his preferred central position.
Capello tried playing Rooney as a frontman behind Jermain Defoe, but the Manchester United star flopped, constantly running out of position, The Sun reported.
Redknapp now believes Capello needs to push Rooney into a wide right role, replacing Beckham in a bid to get the best out of him.
Redknapp said: "Wayne would do damage on the right. Beckham is a good character to have around and is still a good player. But this is a position where Rooney could really do us proud in the World Cup qualifiers."
