Shoaib ban effect: Imran Khan demands PCBs dissolution

Criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board for imposing a ban on pacer Shoaib Akhtar, Cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan on Thursday urged the new Pakistani Government to dissolve the cricket board.

Islamabad, Apr 3 : Criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board for imposing a ban on pacer Shoaib Akhtar, Cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan on Thursday urged the new Pakistani Government to dissolve the cricket board.

On Tuesday, the PCB imposed a five-year ban on Shoaib for repeatedly breaching the players' code of conduct.

"The tragic incident of banning Akhtar reflects how undemocratically cricket is run in this country and I think this is an ideal time for the new government to fix it," Khan told a foreign news agency.

Holding President Pervez Musharraf responsible for making Pakistan a "banana republic," Khan said that PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf, who has been appointed by the board's patron Musharraf, has made the cricket board a sort of banana republic."

Khan went on to say that Shoaib has much to offer to Pakistan Cricket.

"A fit Akhtar is still head and shoulders above other Pakistani bowlers and he still has a lot of cricket left in him if he keeps himself fit," said Khan, chief of his political party, Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf.
