The Pakistan's Board is awaiting the home series against India which they are confident would help them make big bucks. "We will easily make two billion rupees from the India series. It could be even more than that," said PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi.
In the November-December series, the Indians will play three Tests and five One-day Internationals as a part of the International Cricket Council's Future Tour Programme.
That series would provide the first big opportunity to the PCB marketing team to rope in huge sponsorship and end an otherwise frustrating year on a good note, reported The News.
The Board's marketing team failed to break even in the last two home series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, which though were won by Pakistan, but didn't attract much crowds.
"We got back roughly around 80 to 85 percent of the expenses incurred on the Bangladesh series through television rights, sponsorship and gate money," said Naghmi.
Pakistan recorded a 5-0 clean sweep against Zimbabwe in January-February this year, but matches were played in front of empty stands and corporate sponsorship for the series was far from sufficient, said the paper.
Naghmi said that another profitable exercise would be Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh in June to play in a triangular series featuring India and the hosts. "We will receive 1.5 million dollars to play in that tournament," he said.
But Naghmi pointed out that the real profits will come from the series with the Indians only.
