ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Officer, Alan Peacock who is probing into Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtars claim that he was offered bagful of money several times to under-perform in matches against South Africa and India, has reportedly quizzed some of the Pakistani cricketers to gain specific information, supposedly on the allegation.
Karachi, Apr 10 : ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit Officer, Alan Peacock who is probing into Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar's claim that he was offered bagful of money several times to under-perform in matches against South Africa and India, has reportedly quizzed some of the Pakistani cricketers to gain "specific information", supposedly on the allegation.
The Pakistani cricketers interviewed earlier this week include Younis Khan, Danish Kaneria and Umar Gul.
The ICC said in a statement that its officer spoke to three players to seek specific information on some issue on April 5 and 6.
However, it was not clear whether Akhtar was also interviewed. An ICC statement said that as a matter of policy the ICC does not comment on the specific details of the ACSUs investigations.
"The interviews took place in Lahore on 5th and 6th of April. The purpose of these interviews was to seek specific information. The ACSU has confirmed that the information was provided by the players," the Dawn quoted an ICC statement as saying.
Two weeks ago, Shoaib had mentioned in a TV interview that the incidents took place in South Africa and India, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and other officials said the fast bowler had not reported any such thing to them as required under the ICC Code of Conduct.
Any player failing to report an approach can be banned for minimum one year and maximum five years, said the paper.
