Former Pakistan Test player Mohammad Ilyas has threatened the national selection committee for not including his son-in-law and opener Imran Farhat in a 16-member squad named for the Sri Lanka one-day international series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.
Lahore, May 8 : Former Pakistan Test player Mohammad Ilyas has 'threatened' the national selection committee for not including his son-in-law and opener Imran Farhat in a 16-member squad named for the Sri Lanka one-day international series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.
One of the selectors, Shafqat Rana, told Daily Times that Ilyas entered the room of the selectors and said: "thank you very much for not selecting Imran. Now, the war is on."
Shafqat described Ilyas's behaviour as very unfortunate and unbecoming of a former Test cricketer.
"The selection committee has selected the side purely on merit considering the performance of the players. Imran was dropped because Mohammad Hafeez is technically strong and is a good fielder," he added.
Shafqat said he could not believe that Ilyas would use such negative words.
"We are friends for more than three decades. I am still in a shock but one thing is clear that we will not take any pressure from any quarter as far as the selection is concerned," he said.
