Pak investigators have doubts about Woolmer being strangulated

Two Pakistani investigators, who travelled to Jamaica to assist the probe into Bob Woolmers death, have told the Interior Ministry in Islamabad that there is no hard evidence to support the view that former Pakistan cricket team coach Bob Woolmer was strangulated and murdered.

Karachi, May 6 : Two Pakistani investigators, who travelled to Jamaica to assist the probe into Bob Woolmer's death, have told the Interior Ministry in Islamabad that there is no hard evidence to support the view that former Pakistan cricket team coach Bob Woolmer was strangulated and murdered.

Sources told The News that the investigators Mir Zubair and Syed Kaleem Imam have submitted a 40-page report to the Interior Ministry that says that the Jamaican authorities are yet to find any conclusive evidence or proof that Woolmer was strangled.

The report has been submitted to Interior Secretary Syed Kamal Shah, the sources added.

Woolmer, 58, was found unconscious in his hotel room in Kingston on March 18 and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital there, just hours after his team lost to underdogs Ireland in a World Cup game and got knocked out of the event in the Caribbean.

Jamaican authorities later announced that Woolmer was murdered on the basis of an autopsy report that said that the Englishman died of manual strangulation.

Since then there have been several conspiracy theories but nothing concrete has been announced by the Jamaican Police on the case.

Mir Zubair, who was also the chief investigator in the 2002 murder case of US journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi, said he and fellow investigator Kaleem Imam had based their report on whatever they had seen and been briefed in Kingston by the Jamaican authorities.

Zubair and Imam had gone to Kingston on April 10 to assist the murder investigations.
