New Delhi, May 5 : Tournament favourites Australia today defeated India in the inaugural match of the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament by 1-0.
In spite of a spirited performance exhibited by the Indian side, the team went down in the 50th minute when Edward Ockenden scored Australia the first goal of the tournament and his first in an international match.
Indian team, which dominated the play in the first half, failed to convert any penalty corner to its advantage.
