A successful comeback for England in world football could net former skipper David Beckham 50 million pounds, a public relations expert said.
London, May 28 : A successful comeback for England in world football could net former skipper David Beckham 50 million pounds, a public relations expert said.
Max Clifford was quoted by The Telegraph as saying that action for the national side could give a massive boost to the "Beckham brand", which had been "on the way down".
"If he succeeds, Beckham will be "earning more than any British player ever earned. He'll be right back there on top, he's the golden boy again. It could put another 50 million Pounds in the kitty", Clifford said.According to Clifford, 32-year-old Becks will reap the rewards in sponsorship deals, and might even lead to a re-think on his move to America's LA Galaxy which, although lucrative, effectively spells career retirement for the midfielder.
But any change of mind could also put him on a collision course with wife Victoria, who is thought to be enthusiastic about a new life in Hollywood.
LA Galaxy general manager Alexei Lalas warned yesterday that Beckham's international recall was "not the greatest news" for the club, with a series of England qualifiers possibly putting the player out of action for parts of the Major League Soccer season.
"I don't want to stand in the way of a player representing his country... We have a responsibility to make sure David's health is looked after.
This is a hell of a trip he is going to be taking by coming to the United States," he added.
Beckham's recent performances, helping Real Madrid to the top of the Spanish league, have brought his recall by England's Steve McClaren.
