Chittagong, May 18 : India finished the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh at 295 for the loss of three wickets at the Chittagong Divisional Stadium here on Friday.
On a good batting surface, the Indian top order displayed a matured performance after losing the wicket of opener Wasim Jaffar on the very first delivery of the match.
Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, the decision proved incorrect for a while when Jaffar was bowled out when he misjudged an incoming delivery by Mashrafe Mortaza. But skipper Rahul Dravid and Dinesh Karthik, who opened the innings for the first time in Test cricket, steadied the innings, with both scoring half centuries.
At lunch, India were 113 for one. But they lost the wickets of Dravid (61) and Karthik (56) in the second session, bringing Sachin Tendulkar, who has been named the vice-captain for the match, and Saurav Ganguly at the centre.
Sensing the lack of experience in the Bangladeshi camp, the veterans consolidated the Indian innings further. Sachin and Saurav remained unbeaten at 80 and 82 respectively when the first day's play ended, 13 overs short of the target.
