Cricket: Australia six young talents to replace retired stars

Cricket Australia today announced the names of six young, but proven cricketers in its fresh contracted players list.

Sydney, May 1 : Cricket Australia today announced the names of six young, but proven cricketers in its fresh contracted players list.

Among the 25 players who have been offered contracts for the 2007-08 season are World Cup star Brad Hogg, off-spinner Dan Cullen, veteran leg spinner Stuart MacGill and 22-year-old leg spinner Cullen Bailey, who has claimed 54 wickets in 17 first-class matches at an average of 41.51.

Apart from Bailey, the other five new additions to the list are batsmen Chris Rogers and Adam Voges, fast swing bowler Ben Hilfenhaus and all-rounders James Hopes and Cameron White.

They come in place of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Damien Martyn, Justin Langer, Michael Kasprowicz and Simon Katich.

Chief selector Andrew Hilditch said the new list of players represented a very experienced group, but also included some exciting young talent that will ensure that the Australian Test and one-day teams continue to perform at their best in the years ahead.

"While it is still going to be a challenging time for Australian cricket, we consider it to be a very exciting one and are really confident that the group we have picked can help us to continue our dominance of world cricket," Hilditch said.
