A meeting of the seven-member BCCI Coach Selection Committee is presently underway to decide on the next coach of the Indian cricket team.
Bangalore, June 4 : A meeting of the seven-member BCCI Coach Selection Committee is presently underway to decide on the next coach of the Indian cricket team.
Former Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore and South African Graham Ford have emerged as frontrunners for the job.
Under Whatmore's guidance, Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996. Also, earlier this year, Whatmore led Bangladesh into the second round of the Carribbean World Cup for the first time.
The name of former England coach Duncan Fletcher is also doing the rounds.
The seven-member committee comprises of BCCI President Sharad Pawar, Secretary Niranjan Shah, Joint Secretary M P Pandove, Treasurer N Srinivasan and former captains Sunil Gavaskar, S Venkatraghavan and Ravi Shastri.
Whatmore met Shah in Bangladesh during the recent series there, and expressed his willingness to coach India.
A group of former cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, are reportedly in favour of appointing an Indian rather than a foreign coach.
