New Delhi, June 12 : A day after South African Graham Ford declined BCCI's (Board of Control for Cricket in India) offer to coach Team India, the Board today named former Indian skipper Chandu Borde as interim manager for India's tour of England, Ireland and Scotland, starting next week.
The decision was taken by the BCCI Working Committee, which met here today to discuss some urgent issues like telecast rights, players' contract, and the situation arising after 'Ford fiasco'.
Borde, 73, was the manager in the historic tour of Pakistan in 1989-90, and had also been entrusted with the same responsibility from 1984 to 1986.
"I am happy to get this responsibility but I have still not got the official confirmation," Borde said today after being told about his selection as team manager.
Having played 55 Tests matches as a batsman for India, Borde was chairman of the selection committee from 1999 to 2002.
Naming Borde as the interim manager would help the BCCI get some time to look for a new coach.
