Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that Javed Miandad is the best choice as coach of the national cricket team.
Lahore, June 11 : Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that Javed Miandad is the 'best choice' as coach of the national cricket team.
He gave his view regarding who should be the next coach of the senior team during an interview with Geo TV.
Inzamam said one should be patient when things are not going in the right direction, as winning and losing is a part of the game.
Inzamam, who retired from one-day cricket after Pakistan's dismal performance in the World Cup in the West Indies, asked media to give the right picture.
"It is the basic role of media to show the reality. I was shocked by the accusations made against me after the World Cup loss. I was really hurt," he said.
"I was always termed a very lenient captain during my tenure, but the World Cup probe committee made me a dictator. That could only be accepted if players had complained that I acted like a dictator," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying.
Referring to Pakistan's poor performance during the 2003 World Cup, he said, "there is nothing new in the findings of the probe committee. Whenever the team loses, all the blame is put on others, and I was ready for that because it happened in the past."
Inzamam said if he had power as captain it was simply because he was a successful captain.
"I have never been aggressive until I am irritated with something. It is my style of functioning as a skipper. I have a great respect for Imran but I handle things according to my way," replied Inzamam when asked about former captain Imran Khan's opinion that he was not an aggressive captain.
Inzamam said, he is not happy about the way domestic cricket is being played in Pakistan.
"When Pakistan play abroad, the bowlers perform well but the batsmen fail. The problem is that our batsmen are not used to playing over good surfaces. For this sake we must prepare standard pitches at the local level," Inzamam added.
