Munaf looks promising: Srinath

Former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath has said that Munaf Patel was looking promising during his training session and is learning fast.

Chennai, July 5 : Former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath has said that Munaf Patel was looking promising during his training session and is learning fast.

Currently, Patel, 23, along with Irfan Pathan are undergoing training in Chennai for a rehabilitation programme at the MRF Pace Academy, after both were dropped from the team for England and Ireland tour, citing fitness and performance problems.

"It's been pretty good. He has been open, open for ideas. He is learning fast...He seems good. The match fitness is something, which he has to declare on his own, but otherwise you can see the spark in Munaf, pace is good. He looks alright," Srinath said.

Australian bowling coach Troy Cooley was also in the rehabilitation camp, besides budding Australian bowler Mitchell Jhonson.

Nicknamed, "lagan" (tax) bhai, Patel was once thought to be the answer for India's search of an ideal seamer. Patel had made spectacular debut, claiming seven wickets against England in March 2006.

He currently averages 30.80 from his 22 one-day internationals and 29.00 from the seven international tests he has played.
