Superstition key to winning tennis majors, believes Serena Williams

Superstition plays a significant part in ensuring a win at Wimbledon, if Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic are to be believed.

London, July 3 : Superstition plays a significant part in ensuring a win at Wimbledon, if Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic are to be believed.

For Serena, her formula for winning includes tying her shoelaces in the same way, using the same shower before each match and bouncing the ball five times before the first serve and twice before the second.

According to the Daily Mail, 25-year-old Serena feels that she cannot win without following a set routinue before a match

By contrast, the 19-year-old Serbian Ivanovic bounces the ball only once - and avoids stepping on the white lines between points.

Serena also says that she always wears the same sandals before a match and likes to carry an extra dress to the tournaments that she is participating in.

The winner of eight Grand Slams maintains that she lost in last month's French Open quarter-finals to world number one Justine Henin only because she failed to stick to her set of rules.

At last month's French Open, Ivanovic was the runner-up, and she creditted that achievement to her wearing the same outfit for every match as she believed it was bringing her luck.

Yesterday, she breezed through her match against Aravane Rezai, of France, in straight sets.
