Bangalore, Dec 9 : The visiting Pakistani teams hope to level the series 1-1 against India has started fading fast, courtesy the trio of Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan.
Ganguly's first double century here today reasserted his prowess for putting big scores on boards as he made the highest runs ever made at the Chinnaswamy Stadium by a batsman. His contribution of 239 runs put India on a firm position as the team passed the 600-mark.
As India ended its first inning just after tea, it had scored 626 runs.
In between, Irfan Pathan scored his first test century before Danish Kaneria dismissed him for 102. On the first day of the Test match Yuvraj Singh knocked 169 runs as he tried to silence his critics, who normally labels him the Twenty20 phenomenon.
Pakistan began its innings today, but lost a quick wicket in Yasir Hameed.
Hameed managed to score only 19 runs before Indian skipper Anil Kumble got him leg before wicket.
Pakistan ended the day at 86 for the loss of one wicket. Salman Butt and skipper Younis Khan were at the crease on their individual scores of 50 and seven runs respectively.
Host India is leading the series 1-0.
