IPL contract reveals why Test players want to sign on

The rush to corner all the glory and moolah from Twenty20 cricket has polarised the game of cricket like none other, but the contract for signing on for participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) reveals just why Test players are interested.

Sydney, Dec.22 : The rush to corner all the glory and moolah from Twenty20 cricket has polarised the game of cricket like none other, but the contract for signing on for participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) reveals just why Test players are interested.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald which has obtained an exclusive copy of the contract, the first page enables a player to play for the team without being in breach of any obligation to such national cricket board".

"That demonstrates that we understand the demands of the current international schedule, and we are trying to work with it," Lalit Modi, the vice-president of the Indian cricket board said.

In many cases, cricketers will net tens of thousands of dollars to sign with a league in which they cannot hope to play in for two seasons. The players will learn which Indian franchise they will represent with the IPL draft later next month.

Here is a list of which player will earn what from his participation in the IPL.

Shane Warne (458,000 dollars), Glenn McGrath, Stephen Fleming and Scott Styris (401,000 dollars each), Shoaib Malik (300,000 dollars), Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jaywardene, Muttiah Muralitharan Kumar Sangakkara (287,000 dollars each) and Justin Langer (200,000 dollars).
