Narain Karthikeyan felicitated

Indias fastest man on wheels, Narain Karthikeyan, was felicitated here on Wednesday for becoming the first ever Indian to win A1 Grand Prix race at the Zhuhai International Circuit, China.

New Delhi, Dec 20 : India's fastest man on wheels, Narain Karthikeyan, was felicitated here on Wednesday for becoming the first ever Indian to win A1 Grand Prix race at the Zhuhai International Circuit, China.

Karthikeyan was felicitated by the A1 Team India. He led his team to its maiden win on December 16 in an incident-packed race.

"F1 is a very individualistic sport and it is the pinnacle of the motorsport, no doubt about that, but A1 is completely different. When you represent your nation you feel much more proud. We have finally got it together," said Karthikeyan.

He recalled, his words at a press conference three months ago that he would win the A1 Grand Prix.

"We have proved it. So, we are on a high at the moment," he said.

Karthikeyan, who started from third on the grid, took the lead from New Zealand during the second pit stop window on lap 29. The Indian recorded his fastest lap in 1:25:183 seconds on lap 28 with a top speed of 262.8 kph.

Karthikeyan also thanked his team members, who made the success possible.

"Once I started A1 Team India, I just wanted to prove that I could win at the highest level. It gave me a great platform. We had built a great team around me and Vinny Patel, my team engineer, and all those guys, who did everything to make this successful. I think I should thank all of them," he said.

A1 Team India now has 27 points and stands 10th among 22 nations competing for the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.

Narain Karthikeyan became India's first Formula One driver when he competed for Jordan in 2005.

Karthikeyan said he would be delighted to return as a Formula One driver after being linked with a possible move to Spyker.

Karthikeyan became India's first Formula One driver two years ago when he was signed up by the former Jordan team. He has been a Williams tester for the last two seasons.
