Pakistans new vice captain to be named on January 15

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will appoint the teams vice captain for one-year instead of series to series basis.

Islamabad, Dec 19 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will appoint the team's vice captain for one-year instead of series to series basis.

"The vice captain will be named after PCB's governing board meeting on January 15 in Lahore," said PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf.

He said there were three candidates for the said job but others would also be considered.

"The PCB will select a hundred percent fit and mentally strong team member to meet the challenging responsibilities of captaincy in the absence of Shoaib Malik," added Nasim.

Praising Malik, he said that the captain had the abilities to lead the team and he would learn more in Test matches with the passage of time.

"Only a three-match series is not enough to check the qualities of a skipper," he observed.

Nasim praised Misbhul Haq, and said that he had proved himself a great player by giving top class performance against archrivals India.

"He played an excellent innings under pressure when our top batting order had flopped against an experienced Indian bowling attack. He has shown good temperament. He is a nice person, well educated and well mannered member of the team," he said.

Nasim said the PCB would like to hire the services of former Test spinners Abdul Qadir, Iqbal Qasim and Tauseef Ahmad, the Daily Times reported.

"We are also looking for a foreign top class bowler for this purpose." He said the selectors were in search of a partner for Salman Butt.
