Golfing great Greg Norman, who is also known as the Shark has retained the top position in sports personalities rich list for the 11th consecutive year.
Sydney, Dec.12 : Golfing great Greg Norman, who is also known as "the Shark" has retained the top position in sports personalities rich list for the 11th consecutive year.
According to a BRW poll, Norman, now an occasional golfer, is still Australia's highest earner with a 2007 annual income of 20 million Australian dollars.
This year, Norman has earned just over 500,000 dollars from tournament results, while there is not a single Australian-based athlete in the top 10.
Norman supplements his income with sponsorship deals, endorsements and his booming golf course design business.
The top ten Australian sports personalities rich list according to The Australian is as follows:
1. Greg Norman (golf) : 20 million dollars
2. Harry Kewell (football) 11 million dollars
3.Mark Webber (car racing) 8.4 million dollars
4.Adam Scott (golf) 8.1 million dollars
5. Lleyton Hewitt (tennis) 8 million dollars
6.Chad Reed (motorsports) 7.8 million dollars
7.Andrew Bogut (basketball) 7.1 million dollars
8.Lucas Neill (football) 7 million dollars
9.Mat Mladin (motorsports) 6.6 million dollars
10.Mark Viduka (football) 6.5 million dollars
Six of Australia's elite cricketers have forced their way into the top 50, with vice-captain Adam Gilchrist earning more than his skipper Ricky Ponting. Gilchrist ranks 21st with 2.2 million dollars, while Ponting is 24th with 2.1 million dollars. Fast bowler Brett Lee is ranked 28th with 2 million dollars, followed by batsmen Matthew Hayden who is ranked 34th with earnings of 1.7 million dollars. Michael Hussey is ranked 39th with earnings of 1.5 million dollars, while Twenty20 captain Michael Clarke is ranked 47th with earnings of 1.2 million dollars.
